dear Xin-yan,

you moved me from the first moment I did see your drawings. The subtlness of your work made me ask myself,if it would be a good idea,to suggest you for the next interview, because I somehow thought, your work is - as great art they are - beyond words and they don't need any additional comment. But,as things ain't that simple always,I decided to ask you anyhow. Your words - to say so - moved me also beyond words. Your very reason of naming every piece a victory, combined with the description of the circumstances you work on them, while being at some lesson gives for me the impression of the intensity of your lines a very evocative additional meaning and a staggering depth. Your openess in writing about your vulnerability is a very strong act. You express the greatness of every moment through your drawings in a nearly painfully beautiful way, even if seemingly the "theme" of your drawings is somehow "just sketches of girls". Your work to me often expresses sadness but at the same time makes me smile. "Bitter-sweet" as a soulmate of mine might use also fitting here as a label of feeling, maybe just "love" in its purest sense as a treasure of every moment might be all one should say.Thank you for what you are giving.Nicolas

What a fantastic interview! I loved Xin yan drawings from the start, but then to read the words that went along with the process. Just wonderful.
"Pencils suit my violence" that is going to stick with me a long time. Simply beautiful.
